Herbal Treatment For Eye
HERBAL TREATMENT
• Bilberry provides important nutrients that nourish the eyes and enhance visual function. Phytochemicals called anthocyanidins in this herb also help prevent damage to the structures of the eyes. Select a preparation containing 25 percent anthocyanidins (also called PCDs) and take 40 to 60 milligrams three times daily.
• Eye bright is rich in vitamin A and vitamin C. It also contains moderate amounts of the B-complex vitamins and vitamin D, and traces of vitamin E. Eye bright has been used for centuries both as an eyewash and in tea form as a tonic for the eyes. Taken internally, it helps maintain healthy eyes and good vision. Take 500 milligrams three times daily. Used as an eye bath, it can provide welcome relief from dry eyes. Bring 3 ounces of sterile saline Solution to a boil, and pour it over 1 tablespoon of dried cut herb (or one eye bright teabag). Allow it to steep for fifteen minutes, then strain out the herb. When the liquid has cooled to a comfortable temperature, use it as an eyewash. Or moisten a thin white cotton cloth with the warm eyebright tea and place it over your eyes. Leave the compress in place for fifteen minutes. Then moisten a fresh sterile cloth in the tea and gently wipe away any crusts or scales. Throwaway (or sterilize) each cloth after one use. Wash your hands before and after the treatment. Always be very cautious when using warm liquids around your eyes. The skin of the eyelid is thin and tender and can bum easily.
• Ginkgo biloba extract contains flavonoids with an affinity for organs that are rich in connective tissue, including the eyes. Ginkgo protects cellular membranes and has notable antioxidant properties. It also enhances the use of oxygen and glucose by the cells, and works to normalize circulation. Select a ginkgo leaf extract containing at least 24 percent ginkgo heterosides (sometimes called flavoglycosides) and take 40 milligrams three times daily.
